My Journey in Medicine
I am Dr. Venugopal, Senior Consultant Neonatologist based in Shivamogga. My career has been driven by a deep passion for protecting and nurturing newborn lives. From my early days as a medical student to becoming Shivamogga’s first practicing neonatologist, my journey has been about one constant mission — to ensure that every child receives the best possible care, especially in their most critical and delicate moments.
Education & Training
Completed with distinction, building my foundation in medicine and clinical care.
Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College (MRMC), Gulbarga, where I trained under renowned pediatricians and gained extensive experience in managing child health.
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi — India’s most prestigious medical institution. Here, I received advanced training in:
- Neonatal intensive care
- High-frequency ventilation & iNO therapy
- Functional Echocardiography (POC-ECHO)
- Neonatal research and clinical trials
- Additional Certifications: Neonatal Resuscitation, Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS), Neonatal Functional Echocardiography, Evidence-Based Medicine, and Clinical Research Methodology.
My Commitment
Being a neonatologist is not just a profession for me — it is a responsibility and a calling. I believe that advanced neonatal care, combined with compassion and parent empowerment, can transform outcomes for even the sickest babies.

Professional Experience
I currently consult at:
15+ years of post-MD Pediatric experience
5+ years as Consultant Neonatologist
20,000+ pediatric and neonatal cases managed — including extremely preterm babies, cases of birth asphyxia, congenital anomalies, surgical neonates, and rare metabolic disorders.
Level III NICU Leadership – I established and managed advanced neonatal intensive care services in Shivamogga, introducing life-saving interventions such as therapeutic hypothermia, HFO, and advanced neuro-monitoring.
Academic Role
Teaching and mentoring have always been a core part of my career. I actively guide and mentor:
- DM Neonatology Fellows
- MD Pediatrics Postgraduates
- Nursing & Allied Health Students
I am also invited regularly as faculty speaker and panelist at conferences, CME programs, and neonatal training workshops across India. Additionally, I contribute to research as a thesis guide and encourage young doctors to pursue innovations in neonatal care.
